The Best and Worst of Nyx Cosmetics!

Nyx Cosmetics is one of my absolute favorite drugstore brands! I have tried a ton of products from them over the years and have developed a conclusive ranking of my top 5 and bottom 5 products from the brand! If you prefer a video format, I do have a video showing the products and talking about them a little more in depth! Click here to watch! If not, keep on reading! As a disclaimer, all of my opinions on these products are just my personal opinions based on my dry, sensitive skin type and affinity for dewy things. If I mentioned a product that you love in my bottom 5, that's okay! We all have different preferences when it comes to makeup and that's why the beauty industry keeps growing bigger and better! Let's start off one a positive note! Here is my top 5, best of the best products from Nyx! Nyx Bare with Me Tinted Skin Veil If you love tinted moisturizer but you also like a little extra coverage, this is for you! The Nyx Tinted Skin Veil is exactly what it sounds like. It gives your skin a tint that looks exactly like skin and never gets cakey, even on my severely dry skin! It also doesn't have fragrance in it which when it comes to complexion products, is a must for sensitive skin folks like me. It covers the redness on my cheeks but won't completely cover up breakouts. That doesn't bother me because I prefer to cover my blemishes with a concealer. It has a natural finish that truly just looks like skin. It's unreal. It's $13 and 100% worth every penny.

If you tried Glossier Stretch Concealer and thought it was almost good but too oily and not enough coverage, I have the solution! Nyx's Conceal, Correct, Contour palette is just as creamy and emollient but delivers higher coverage that can easily be set down with a powder. The palette comes in 3 shades, light, medium and deep and each palette comes with 6 shades within it. It includes 2 correcting shades, a contour shade, and 3 shades with different undertones so you can totally customize your perfect concealer shade! This palette makes me feel like a true makeup artist and it's only $12. $12 for 6 shades means your only paying $2 a pop! Thanks Nyx!

Before you scroll past this one because you don't wear glitter, please wait! This glitter primer works incredibly with shimmer shadows. It lays a sticky base that has a hint of sheen to it, but don't worry, it's super easy to glide over with a brush or your fingers. It also has great lasting power. I have hooded eyes, so creasing throughout the day is usually pretty inevitable for me, but with this primer, my shimmers stay perfectly creaseless! At only $6, this primer is an excellent tool to add to your collection and amp up your makeup looks!

This is THE liner if you have hooded eyes! It has a paintbrush tip which is ideal for gliding smoothly over the fold in your eyelid and perfecting your winged liner. I love that it has a matte but not crusty finish. It dries down fully matte, but not too quickly so you still have plenty of work time. They have a vinyl finish option as well but I prefer my liner to be matte. I love how crisp and sharp I'm able to get my winged liner with this product and I definitely think it's worth the $7.50!

This might be the best lip gloss of all time. I compare every new lip gloss I purchase to this gloss because it's just. that. GOOD. First of all, they smell amazing. Literally like candy. What a treat! The formula is so buttery, its no wonder they named it "butter" gloss. It's super comfortable and wears beautifully throughout the day. It never gives you that gross line on the inside of your lips and fades really naturally. For only $5, you're gonna want all of the shades! It's easily my most worn gloss and I'm constantly picking up new shades. I'm definitely a butter gloss fan for life. Alright, now moving on to my worst of the worst from Nyx! Nyx Ultimate Multi-Finish Shadow Palette (shade: Warm Rust) This eyeshadow formula is not it. I love the idea of this palette coming with 4 shades in 3 different finishes, unfortunately, the formula is just not good. The matte shades are pretty pigmented, but they do not blend well at all. The shimmer shades don't have much shimmer and aren't very pigmented. The "glitter" shades have the finish I wish the shimmers had, but again, they are not pigmented at all so it doesn't matter. This palette was also $18 which I find incredibly pricey for the drugstore. You could get a higher quality Colourpop palette for less than that. 3/10. Would not recommend.

Nyx Eyeshadow Base This product was so confusing. It was really creamy, but it never dried down. It also didn't make my eyeshadows appear any more pigmented, so like...what was the point here? Usually with eyeshadow bases, they're either intended to increase the pigmentation of your eyeshadows or the long wearability. This one did neither. If you are looking for a drugstore eyeshadow primer that does both and costs half the price, check out Wet n' Wild's eyeshadow primer. It dries down matte and lasts all day. Skip this Nyx one!

Nyx HD Concealer To be fair, I haven't seen the brand promoting this product a whole lot anymore, but it's still in stores so I have to warn you. This is not a dry skin friendly concealer. It looked super cakey under my eyes and on top of my breakouts. It's high coverage, but that's about the only positive. If you have oily skin, this may work for you, but for us dry skinned folks, this was not the one. My favorite drugstore concealer of choice remains to be the Nyx Conceal Correct Contour palette and the HD concealer just pales in comparison.

Nyx Worth the Hype Mascara What a bad name for a mascara that absolutely does not live up to the hype! The brush was nice and thick and bristled, but it didn't pick up enough product. I felt like all this mascara did was make my lashes look more black. It promised volume and length and delivered on neither of those claims. It was just a dud. Why waste the name "Worth the Hype" on a product that was anything but. If you are looking for a drugstore mascara that actually provides significant volume and length, check out the Essence Lash Princess mascara! It's my absolute favorite mascara, not just from the drugstore, but of all time, and it's only $5! Nyx Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick

Okay, I feel like we, as a beauty community have started to move away from matte liquid lipsticks anyway, but this one was one of the worst. It was so dry, and I know that most matte liquid lipsticks are, but this one was like concrete. It was so thick that it really felt like putting paint on your lips. Despite popular belief, not all matte liquid lipsticks have to suck the life out of your lips! My favorite matte liquid lipstick formula is from Coloured Raine. It has a thinner formula, but still gives beautiful coverage all while not making your lips feel like they're gonna fall off. Their regular price is $17 but they have a ton of shades on sale for $6 on their website.

That's it for my best and worst of Nyx Cosmetics! If you liked this post, definitely be sure to check out the video that accompanies it and subscribe to my YouTube channel!
