Ardell at Home Brow Tint Kit Tested!

Brows are incredibly important to me. Brows are the one makeup step that I do nearly every day even if I don't put any other makeup on. I love the way they frame the face and to be honest, they give me attitude! When I saw that Ardell, one of my favorite drugstore brands, came out with an at home brow tint kit, you know I had to try it! $15 felt like a bit high for the drugstore but it also claimed to have 12 applications that each last up to 2 weeks. That means it would last around 6 months which made the $15 seem a lot more understandable to me. (Hate reading? Check out my video review!)

Let's talk logistics. The kit comes with 2 main parts, a pigment powder (0.3 oz) and a conditioning developer (1 oz). It also comes with a spatula and reusable plastic try to mix the products together. Definitely use those because the pigment does stain. Additionally they give you a spoolie for application. I got the color "Soft Black". Now let's talk about the mixing process. They tell you to use a "pea sized" amount of the conditioning developer which is somewhat difficult as the product is very liquidy and comes out quickly. I would recommend holding the tube horizontally so that it doesn't spill out immediately upon removing the cap. Ardell then recommends that you use 3-4 "shakes" of the tint powder. I found that through my multiple times trying this, it is better to do a few more shakes than that if you really want to get any color payoff.

This brings us to the application. The spoolie allows you to apply a generous amount of product to your brows. I had q-tips on hand to make sure I cleaned up any spots where I did not want there to be tint. The first time I used this brow tint kit, I let it sit for exactly 10 minutes, the recommended amount of time. (I tried leaving it on for 20 minutes the second time I tried this and found that it made no difference at all.) I removed the tint with a damp face towel. I definitely noticed a visible difference in the color of my brows. It wasn't the same effect is my typical brow pencil and tinted gel routine, but they absolutely looked darker.

Now here's my issue with this product. It looked so good the first day. I was telling everyone I could about this incredible new at home brow tint kit. My excited quickly faded the following evening when I completed my skincare routine and realized that my brows were back to their original state. Now this could be because I use an oil cleanser, and oils tend to fade color quicker than typical cleansers. However, I would not have expected that a product claiming to last 2 weeks would disappear after less than 2 days.

My final thoughts on the Ardell brow tint kit are that it definitely worked, but has terrible lasting power. I do not think it would be worth it for me to have to redo my tint every 2 days. It takes me less than 5 minutes to fill in my brows every day, so why would I spend 20 minutes total tinting my brows every 2 days? It just doesn't make sense for me! I could see this product being particularly helpful if you are going to be swimming and want to have a more waterproof look. I could also see this being good if you are someone who does not use any oils or rich moisturizers in your skincare routine. And so my search for a long wearing brow tint continues. Let me know if you've tried this product and what you think! Don't forget to check out my video review of this product on my YouTube channel!
